Several of us at Poochie-Bells had the pleasure of visiting Bobbi at Pooches and Purrs. What a fabulous
store and we are so proud that Poochie-Bells are prominently displayed up front! Thank you Bobbi for a
warm welcome to both our staff and product!
"It all started when my husband had a heart attack back in 1999, and I got him a dog to help with his recuperation.
We got our first pooch, Jack - a 1 1/2 year old Jack Russell Terrier (actually named after Kevin Bacon's character
from A Few Good Men). We got him from a breeder we met at a dog show. The other dogs in the household
were picking on him, and she was afraid he was going to get hurt. Anyway, we felt he was lonely, so we got him a
sister - Little Miss Sis (my Mom's nick name was Sis, and my husband calls me Sis). Then, a few months later,
we rescued Ginger, a 6 month old Cockapoo. Right around that time I got involved in the show circuit, and my
partner and I had a JRT that went on to Westminster and placed in the top 20 in the country.
Around that time I started noticing all of the cool stuff I could find at the shows, but no where else. That's when my
idea came about to open a boutique. I was running my real estate appraisal business, plus a partner in our real
estate firm, so I started by simply going to dog shows and bringing things that no one else had. That's how we
got Kelsey Rose, our little ShihTzu. Her owner was walking the Wilmington Kennel Club Dog show looking for a
home for her.
I took a big leap of faith in opening the store. The first year was fun, not profitable, but fun. Now the economy is
my biggest fear. Anyway, we're in it for the long haul.
Our big June promotion was the wedding of Kelsey Rose and Chewey, held on June 14th at the store."
